Durango Recovery Center follows a progressive three-level system, whereby clients gain greater freedom and responsibility as they gain trust, commit to recovery, and move through the program. A typical day in the program includes personal care routines, rituals such as daily meditation and stretching in the mornings and reflection time in the evenings before bed, community meals, individual and group therapy, psychoeducational groups, daily active periods, routine medication administration, medical treatment such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for some clients, and health check-ups.
Weekly, clients participate in experiential learning programs including life skills learning and other psychoeducational opportunities such as addiction and recovery groups, emotional awareness groups, groups addressing therapeutic process including Cognitive Behavioral skills, mindfulness, meditation, and yoga practice. Skills and interventions are evidence based in nature, and are known to be effective in supporting individuals in addiction recovery as well as supporting holistic mental and physical wellness.
In addition to daily activity such as hiking the trails behind the campus or utilizing the on-site weight and cardio gym, clients participate in weekly outdoor group outings, exploring the amazing cultural history of the area in places like Mesa Verde National Park, or taking advantage of the multitude of outdoor activities, trails, and adventures to be had locally including overnight camping trips, winter sports, hiking and mountain biking, river trips and more. Clients also participate in weekly teambuilding initiatives within their community, enjoy activities such as movie nights, participate in nutrition classes and community cooking, and enjoy regular phone calls and family visits. Durango Recovery Center also seeks to engage in Durango community groups and meet-ups where beneficial for clients.

Durango Recovery Center itself, is situated near Goeglein Gulch, close to Fort Lewis College, with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails directly out the back door. Durango Recovery Center is located on the Durango “T” public transportation route and is within walking distance of downtown (1.2 miles) via a pedestrian path. With cultural treasures such as Mesa Verde and other ancient Puebloan ruins, vast tracts of nationally designated wilderness, world class skiing, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, and rafting right in town, there is no shortage of outdoor adventure, healthy living, or learning opportunities for clients in this tight-knit community!
